Fire as the Divine Intermediary
In Vedic tradition, Agni—the sacred fire—is considered the messenger between the human and divine realms. The Navagraha Homam channels offerings through Agni directly to the nine planetary deities, seeking their grace and pacification of malefic influences.
The ritual uses nine specific sacred woods (samidha), nine types of grains, and nine varieties of flowers corresponding to each planet. Special mantras from the Rigveda and Yajurveda are chanted for each graha in sequence, systematically addressing all planetary imbalances in one comprehensive ceremony.
“One who performs the Navagraha Homa with devotion shall be freed from all planetary afflictions, and the nine planets shall bestow their grace abundantly.”
